Here's a selection films I managed to see at the Annecy Animation Festival 2024:

I loved the narrators voice, it felt very sincere and emotive. I got really drawn into the story. The conditions she had to endure to get from Nigeria to Italy were terrible.

The art style reminded me of Matisse, Gauguin and Dufy.

The whole animation was constructed with abstract photos from the dancer’s body using an iphone. Very clever, emotive and mystical.

This was powerful, it made me imagine the tree as a huge seething city full of life.

This was mysterious, in black and white with a detailed pencil sketch feel, it was meticulous. I would like to watch it again to try and appreciate more fully.

This was pretty amazing. I liked the rotoscope technique and background visuals. It kind of glamorised the 70's hippy scene but shows the consequences of drug abuse and disorientation too.

It reminded me of Ralph Bakshi’s animated film imagery from the 70's.

They changed Robert Wyatt’s accident to taking place in New York rather than London, I don’t know why.

The English dialogue was a bit stiff at times but in other places worked really well.

Overall, just very nicely done and it’s been snapped up for distribution.

They might need to change the title from "Rock Bottom" as it clashes with another title available on Netflix.

I wonder what this team could do with other 70's rock albums

like Pink Floyd's "Wish you Were Here" and "Dark Side of the Moon"

or even the concept album by Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" ?

This was probably my favourite film. Inspired by Henri Michaux’s poems and drawings "Miserable Miracle" explores the limits of language and perception, creating connections between sound, meaning, line and movement.
